The Facts About Cancer
Filed under DiseaseFeb 5Coincides with World Cancer Day is commemorated every February 4, the World Health Organization (WHO) provides a stunning report. In the site www.who.int, WHO estimates that 84 million people will die of cancer between 2005 and 2015 without intervention.
The main types of cancer leading to overall cancer mortality each year are:
- Lung (1.3 million deaths/year)
- Stomach (803.000 deaths)
- Colorectal (639.000 deaths)
- Liver (610.000 deaths)
- Breast (519.000 deaths)
Trigger factors of cancer :
- Smoking Habits
According to WHO, at least 1.8 million deaths due to cancer caused habit merokok.Sebanyak 60 percent of the total number of deaths caused by smoking were found in developing countries and underdeveloped. - Alcohol
WHO reported, as many as 351.000 cancer patients die due to alcohol. - Obesity
As many as 274.000 people die from cancer caused by obesity factor. - Low fruit and vegetable intake
- Physical inactivity
- Sexually transmitted Human Papilloma Virus ( HPV )-infection
- Urban air pollution
- Indoor smoke from household use of solid fuels.
To anticipate the surge of cancer mortality, then every 4 February, WHO together with the International Union Against Cancer (IUAC) conduct cancer prevention campaign. This year’s theme is “Cancer can be prevented too”, focusses on simple measures to prevent cancer such as: no tobacco use, a healthy diet and regular exercise, limited alcohol use, protection against cancer-causing infections.
